The Cat Specialist Group is a network of some 200 cat specialists world-wide. This network is responsible for the observation of the status and the conservation needs of the 36 wild cat species living on our planet and for the continued Red List assessment. The group serves as a center of information on wild cats and their conservation. The Group is one of more than 120 similar groups of scientists, wildlife managers and conservationists involved in various wild animals and plants who make up the Species Survival Commission SSC of the World Conservation Union IUCN.
