Cheyne Middle School Sponsors "Ohana" - a resident cheetah at CCF Namibia
The Cheetah Conservation Fund Canada is happy to announce that we have partnered with Cheyne Middle School in Brampton, Ontario to raise funds for resident cheetah, Ohana, at CCF Namibia.
It was a fortuitous moment when members of our chapter met the principal, Hazel at a booth we staffed in the summer of 2005 at the Mountain Equipment Co-op Store in Toronto, Ontario. Hazel explained to us that this was a brand new school that would be opening its doors in the fall of 2005 and that their mascot was the cheetah. It was a perfect match!
On September 13, 2005 one of esteemed our Board members, Dianne Girard was accompanied by a representative of the Toronto Zoo to speak at the school's opening assembly. It was then announced to the children what the school mascot was and the planned sponsorship of a resident cheetah in Africa!
Cheyne Middle School's plan is to raise funds towards the care of this cheetah for 1 year. The kids have been busy with a bunch of activities to raise the money and as of November they had raised close to $1000.
We look forward to an ongoing relationship with the school and plan to meet with the kids again when we will accept a cheque from them in April of 2006.
